All my life, I wanted to be a writer.
Not just somebody who scribbles in a journal or posts Yelp reviews. I wanted my verbs to electrify and my analogies to be uniquely cool, like snowflakes melting on the tongue. I longed to create magic with my metaphors and not dangle my participles. I wanted to start my days with “once upon a time” and finish them with “the end” and fill in the intervening blank pages with action and adventure, suspense and drama, romance and humor. Each square on the calendar would be a tale worth remembering, and in the telling I would become immortal.
I wanted to become a published author. To hold in my hands solid, irrefutable proof of a dream come true. A cover with my name on it, pages filled with words that had tumbled forth from my imagination, assembling and rearranging themselves until they formed a cohesive whole. The publishing industry is a challenging beast to tame, it turns out, and the “no, thank you”s outnumber the “yes, please”s 50-to-1. So what’s a fella to do?
Go out and make his dreams come true…even if it costs money to make it happen.
And that is why my first novel, No Time For Kings, is available for sale. I am excited beyond belief, and can’t wait to see where the journey takes me.
In the meantime, I’ll blog about topics I am passionate about. Things like the Pacific Northwest. And food. Ghost hunting, photography, pop culture, and hiking. Watch out: I might even throw in a political rant or two. Republicans, you have been warned. :)
Thank you for following along.

Thanks! I like your comment. :)
I’m choosing to take it as a good omen that it’s snowing on your rose garden ;)
PS: You’re got mail!
Awesome blog! I am looking forward to following along on your adventures!
Thank you very much, Audrey! And welcome aboard. :)
I visited Portland 2 summers ago, and fell in love with your city. I hope you do see your book on a shelf in Powell’s, I could live there too. Hey, send me a maple bacon bar from Voodoo when you get a chance!
NOW you’ve struck a chord. Those maple bacon bars from Voodoo are the best! I’m going downtown tomorrow…I just may have to have one. In honor of you, of course!
I just hopped over from a comment you left at The Ramblings! I think I’m gonna like reading your journey. I have always loved to write and only recently (after starting my blog) did I actually think I could make something of myself with it. I’ve also gone through the unemployment line recently but am back in the corporate world again. Perhaps next time I leave, it will be on my own terms! Great stuff man!
Thanks, Jim! Appreciate the kind words. I’ll be sure to check out your blog, too.
Mark, perhaps you can help me. My tech friend is helping me put an 80 cartoon book on kindle/amazon. I want to put a picture of the cover in upper right corner on my blog and about page. If you find some time please tell me how to do this. Is this allowed by wordpreess because they stipulate no advertising? Thank you.
Sure thing, Carl. Let me know when you have the link, and I’ll help you with posting it. There’s no rule against promoting a book that you have written…I follow a lot of author blogs and everybody does it. :)
